Here are a few tips and reminders that will help you move as easily as possible.

About a month before you move:

- Clean out your closets, attic, basement and any other storage place for any item you may not want or need any more.

- If you are planning to get rid of a lot of items - consider having a garage sale or donating them to charity, hospital shelters or whatever. If you choose to donate, remember to keep the receipts for tax purposes.

- Think hard whether or not to ship your appliances. Don't move a gas stove to an all-electric house! Check if your appliances match your new house in size age or color, if not try to sell them.

- Make a list of all the items that are going to be moved.

- Try to use up all frozen food and all canned goods. Frozen food can't be shipped safely and canned goods are heavy and take to much space.

- Notify all regular services, such as Security company, gardening, etc. of your vacating date. Also notify the post office and all publications, (magazines, newsletters & journals) of your new address and your date of move.

- Make arrangements to collect all advanced deposits or security deposits on utilities or rentals.

- Check the balance on your homeowner insurance. You might be able to apply all prepaid balance to your new residence. Make sure your insurance carrier covers your new house immediately.
